Callidus Design has been appointed by the University of St Andrews to carry out the services design for the new boiler room in the Bute Building, Queens Terrace, St Andrews. The existing boilers have reached the end of their useful lives and are now extremely unreliable and inefficient. Replacing the existing boilers in the existing boiler room would require a significant down time and therefore disruption to the building. By creating a new boiler room and installing a new suite of boilers and associated accessories whilst the building was still operational, permits the downtime associated with the changeover from old to new boilers to be kept to a relatively short time period. The new boiler arrangement will be such that separate hydraulic circuits may be turned off automatically and controlled with weather compensation to make an immediate impact on the very high heating costs of the Bute Building.
