Uninterruptable Power Supplies
There are several items to consider when designing a new electrical installation incorporating a UPS unit or modifying an existing installation to add a UPS unit, all of which will influence the reliability and stability of the installation. These include :
• Power quality,
• Load types,
• Load size,
• Type of UPS,
• Back up power systems (batteries) and their re charge time,
• Voltage optimisation,
• Remote environmental management and monitoring,
• Additional cooling loads.
The electrical distribution system design can incorporate dual ac power supplies to the UPS to increase system resilience. The dual input connection allows the UPS rectifier and bypass to be supplied from separate sources to protect against a single point of failure.
Multiple UPS units can be connected in parallel to increase the overall system capacity and / or provide redundancy.
